Add eOS Freya Backgrounds to Ubuntu Gnome

I like the background wallpaper in Elementary OS Freya. They are a little more vibrant and airy than those found in Ubuntu gnome 15.10. Here is how you can install Freya’s wallpapers in your own Ubuntu Gnome install.

  1. Download all the images and elementary-wallpapers.xml from here
  2. Move the xml file to /usr/share/gnome-background-properties:
    $ sudo mv ~/Downloads/elementary-wallpapers.xml /usr/share/gnome-background-properties/

  3. Move the images to /usr/share/backgrounds (assuming that all JPEG’s in your downloads folder are the eOS backgrounds):
    $ sudo mv ~/Downloads/*.jpg /usr/share/backgrounds/

  4. Restart your gnome shell with Alt+F2 and restart

  5. Open Settings > Backgrounds and you’ll find the Freya wallpapers there.
